Super Bowl LVII

Intro by Yank

As the last football game of the year, the Super Bowl presents a prime opportunity for reflection. Your boys here at One Last Line can draw conclusions with the best of them (as you’ve seen with our picks). On the one hand, this game is a good reminder of why we struggled during the regular season; we had a hard time believing in this Eagles team, and they made us pay for it every time. On the other hand, we improved during the playoffs, identifying the gaps between the top teams and the pretenders, but we still struggled to put a big weekend together. Luckily we have one game left, one last chance to win big. That starts with a whole host of prop bets that we discussed earlier. We will close out here with our thoughts on the final spread of the season, One Last Line if you will.

Super Bowl LVII Picks

The Kansas City Chiefs @ the Philadelphia Eagles-1.5 (6:30 PM ET on FOX)

Sam: This one hurts. As much as I’ve doubted the Eagles this year, at every turn they’ve proved me wrong. It’s with my final bet of the 2022-2023 NFL season, that I must side with the Eagles. Thankfully, the sniff test was on high alert when the line opened Chiefs-1.5. I knew that was going to swing, and boy did it swing quickly. I grabbed the Eagles at +1.5 and not even 15 minutes later was the game a pick ‘em and another 15 minutes after that Eagles -1.5. I still would have taken the Eagles at -1.5, but it’s even sweeter to grab them as slight underdogs.  If you have checked out our prop bets preview, you’ll sense a theme for why I settled on the Eagles. They can and will run the ball up, down, left, and right. No one has shown they’re capable of stopping them. Their defense has been great, although seemingly untested this post-season. Their final test is beating the stink I’m putting on them up, down, left, and right. For my wallet’s sake, I hope they come through, but for my heart’s sake – and let’s be honest – America’s sake, I hope I’m wrong.

Yank: So much awesome analysis on this game out there, but as is our custom you will find very little of it here. We will leave possible game strategies and the grinding of tape to the Bill Barnwells and Mina Kimes of the world. For Sam and me, a few things stand out. At the top of the list is a fact Sam already mentioned, we’ve doubted the Eagles all year, and they’ve rubbed our face in it like Nick Sirianni on the sideline all year. But speaking of the sidelines we’d be remiss not to point out that old Sirianni will be staring down Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes across the way. I’m not sure I’ve ever bet against the Chiefs once since we started this blog, and the reason is simple, Patrick Mahomes is unlike anyone we’ve ever seen before. The guy has been unstoppable from the moment he took over as a starter, but the most insane part is his consistency; he literally never has a bad game. Even two years ago in the Super Bowl loss to the Bucs nobody left that game thinking it was his fault they lost. My heart wants to pick the Chiefs and ride with Mahomes, but much like that Bucs experience this Eagles team is deeper, especially across both lines of scrimmage. I grabbed the Eagles early like Sam when he noticed the line was moving, and I can’t think of a more deserving team to need to overcome not just an awesome opponent, but the stink that comes with having my bet on you this year.

Yank’s Pick: $11.20 on the Eagles ML (-112)

Sam’s Pick: $11.50 on the Eagles+1.5 (-115)
