NFL Super Wild Card Monday – 2024

Intro by Sam

The last two days have been a doozy – and there are two more games to go. We’ve said it before and you didn’t believe us – fade us if you want to win big!

Recap

While Yank was relishing in a Cowboys disaster, neither of us enjoyed a win. We completely whiffed betting on the Cowboys and we opted for the ML instead of the spread, which would’ve hit in the Rams-Lions game. Special shoutout to Sean McVay for opting for 1, 2, 3 field goals from less than 30 yards out! At least he took the points, am I right?

Wild Card Picks

The Pittsburgh Steelers @ the Buffalo Bills-10

Yank: We spent all year staying away from unpredictable 50-50 games with teams with similar talent and then spent Saturday and Sunday getting shredded on those games. Someone has to stand up and say no more and today that someone is me. Why play the hardest bets on the board? Let’s take a shot at some fun props instead. I think this game is going to be a slugfest in the cold, with lots of running the ball, and frankly, I’m kind of expecting it to go over the point spread. The Steelers will likely get killed but could be frisky for a half or more offensively against an average Bills defense. The Steelers defense is missing their best player so that will limit their effectiveness. Let’s take both starting RBs to go over their total and the Bills kicker to have a day. Both of these coaches love to kick!

Sam: It’s honestly too bad this game wasn’t yesterday. We the people deserve a blizzard game! And while this one will still be a fun, cold-weather game, it won’t have the same je ne sais quoi. Nevertheless, we still have a game to pick, and while I too have dabbled in the prop arena, I decided to pick the spreads as well, because at this rate it doesn’t matter – I’m going to lose it either way! For this game, I’ve got the Bills-9.5. Theoretically, the Steelers defense is much worse when TJ Watt doesn’t play, and kind of like Flacco going to Houston, we’ve seen Mason Rudolph play football before. That usually doesn’t work out too well. That being said, I like the idea of this being a ground-and-pound kind of game, so I’ve got both Steelers RBs scoring in a parlay and the Bills moneyline tied to James Cook scoring a TD and Josh Allen throwing for a TD.

Sam’s Pick: $4.40 on the Bills-9.5 (-110), $3.00 on a Same Game Parlay of the Bills ML, James Cook anytime TD, and Josh Allen 1+ Passing TD (+187), and $1.00 on a Same Game Parlay of Najee Harris 1+ TD and Jaylen Warren 1+ TD (+1006)

Yanks Pick: $5.00 on Najee Harris/James Cook both over 50 rush yards for the game (+200) and $13.80 on Matt Gay O5.5 kicking points (-138)

The Philadelphia Eagles-3 @ the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Yank: Let’s recap the Bucs last two games. Last week they probably should have lost to Carolina, on whom they only scored 10 points in a must-win game. The week before that in another key divisional matchup, they got annihilated by the Saints. Even with a reeling Eagles team on deck, it’s hard to feel good about the Bucs in this one. I’m expecting a lot of points in this one as well, primarily by Eagles players, even with AJ Brown out.  Let’s go all in Philly on the off chance it’s a blowout. And if my stink helps make them lose all the better.

Sam: Damn – I wish I had read Yank’s bit before placing my bets. This is the exact same logic I used to bet against the Packers. Were the Panthers sneakily one of the best teams in football?? I don’t know. Nothing makes sense. In a world where nothing makes sense, I’ve decided to make bets that don’t make sense either. I’ve got money on the Eagles-3 because they haven’t won a meaningful game in months, and I’ve got money on two different players (Hurts and Smith) to score 2+ TDs each. None of these will hit and the Eagles will probably still win by 1 to 2 points. If I knew I had this kind of power, I would’ve bet against my Vikings all season long. Anyway, here’s to another losing day this weekend!

Sam’s Pick: $4.20 on the Eagles-3 (-105), $2.00 on Jalen Hurts to score 2+ TDs, (+470) and $2.00 on Devonta Smith to score 2+ TDs (+2000)

Yanks Pick: $4.17 on the Eagles-9 (+240), $10.00 on Jalen Hurts to score a TD (+120), and $5.00 on Devonta Smith to score 2+ TDs (+2000)
