Intro by Sam
How many LIX does it take to get to the center of the Vince Lombardi Trophy? We’re going to find out today when the Eagles take on the Chiefs. While I know we’re all looking forward to the fans on both sides complaining about how the refs are cheating for the other team, hopefully, we can silence the outside noise and focus on the two best teams in football squaring off.
I get the sense that many people are tired of the repetitive nature of the Super Bowl featuring the Chiefs. In 4 of the last 6 years, we’ve had either Chiefs vs. 49ers or Chiefs vs. Eagles. And another time, it was the Chiefs vs. Buccaneers. But I am not one of the people tired or bored of the Chiefs. In fact, I’m glad we get to see this matchup. You could argue that the Lions were more talented than the Eagles, but they lost, so I guess they weren’t. The Eagles earned their way here and now they have a chance to take down the Champs. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have history and legend to chase. Whether it’s the first “threepeat” in the modern NFL or Mahomes fighting for Brady’s crown (wayyyy too early to start that conversation, my friends), there are real narratives to play for in this one. So, don’t turn your head in disgust, turn your head towards the TV, the wings, the ice-cold beer, the history of the game, and perhaps most importantly, the picks Yank and I will be making on this fine Super Bowl Sunday. Let us football and let us gamble.

Super Bowl LIX Game Picks
The Philadelphia Eagles vs the Kansas City Chiefs-1
Sam: I have to admit, I’ve been a bit clouded about this game. Everything in my mind points to a low-scoring game. The Eagles game plan – and every team that plays Mahomes – will be to take the deep shots away. While the Chiefs will be locked in on limiting Saquon’s home run opportunities. Spags vs. Fangio is all-time defensive coordinator battle-type stuff. With everything pointing to a methodical approach to moving the ball down the field, an emphasis on limiting scoring in the red zone, and long time-of-possession drives, it makes me nervous that I’m completely wrong about how this will play out. Nevertheless, I’m putting my money where my head is, and that’s on the under, Chiefs doing what the Chiefs do best, and the kickers’ legs being sore after this one. Oh and a sprinkle of props just for the added fun.
Yank: Add me to the list of people who don’t think this matchup is very fun. I have to admit this is the least excited I’ve been for the Super Bowl in a long time. Part of that is because I hate the Eagles, who truly have a team of destiny feel about them at this point. That said the most repeatable formula in football is Patrick Mahomes coming through in the clutch. As a Giants fan I’m worried another huge Saquon Barkley game is in the offing and the Chiefs duct taped together band of big name, geriatric playmakers reminiscent of a mid 2010s Knicks team just can’t keep up. Fingers crossed I lose money on these ones.
